Management guru Peter Drucker said a nonprofit organization needs to address five basic questions to be successful:

  • What is our mission?
  • Who are our clients?
  • What do our clients value?
  • How do we measure results?
  • What is our plan?

These questions were the focus of a full-day CHI staff conference on Wednesday, July 23 at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. “We really want to get to the heart of what our clients need and how we can best meet those needs,” said Alexander Roberts, CHI’s executive director.

More than 100 staff and board members participated in the conference and broke out into small groups focusing on each of Drucker’s five questions. The groups then made recommendations that will ultimately serve as a basis for an action plan for program development and improvement.
