Financial Fitness Workshop Helps Homeowners and Families Take Control of Their Finances
NYS Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/I/WF – 35th District) co-hosted a “Financial Fitness Workshop,” Tuesday at the Riverfront Library, to help individuals and homeowners learn how to take control of their finances. Rising Foreclosures Hurt Island as Nation Recovers
New foreclosure cases on Long Island are spiking, even as the mortgage crisis fades in the rest of the United States. Despite rising home values that suggest a housing rebound on the Island, lenders filed 12,271 initial foreclosure cases here in the first eight months of this year, a nearly 53 percent surge compared with the same period in 2012, according to data from real estate information firm LI Profiles, based in Brightwaters

Hauppauge Parents Complain about Homeless Students
Hauppauge parents and residents packed the Suffolk County Legislature building Wednesday night with concerns about a dozen students — which they called an influx — enrolling in their school district after they moved to a nearby shelter. More than 100 people gathered for a public forum held by Suffolk Legis. John M. Kennedy Jr. (R-Nesconset) to give their thoughts and ask questions about who would bear the financial burden of new students being added to the district, and to refute claims that Hauppauge families didn’t want the new students added to their schools because they come from shelters.
